Obituary

"Blessed are the pure of heart, for they will see God." Matthew 5:8

Albert "Baha" Ammori, 73, died at home surrounded by his loving family on January 2, 2022. Baha had a big heart and warm smile that left an impression on everyone he met. He loved–and was loved by–a large family, uncountable friends, and his broader community. He is and will be missed by all who knew him.

Born in Telkaif, Iraq in 1948, Baha was the eldest of nine children of Shlemon Ammori and Mara (Sheena) Ammori. He moved to Michigan in his early twenties and married Kamila Karana, daughter of Azzo and Hyatt Karana. They spent the next 47 years by one another's side. A loving husband and father, Baha loved spending time with their five children and was a kind and supportive Baba. His biggest happiness was his five grandchildren, whom he loved playing with and holding, and who loved him back just as much.

Baha was an optimist, always believing the best in people, the future, and himself.

During his three years of facing cancer, he did not complain and stayed positive and joyful with his family, even at the end. He had a life-long passion for talking business and served as a mentor to many in the community. For his children, he modeled hard work, treating others fairly, and setting high goals in education and life. He also loved Arabic bands, Elvis Presley and travel. He could walk for miles without needing to rest.

He is survived by his wife, Kamila, who was by his side both for poorer and for richer, in sickness and in health, with unflagging energy and devotion; by his children, John (Katy) Ammori, Marvin Ammori, Lavon (Carl) Pogoncheff, Crystal (Shatomi) Kerbawy, and Candice Ammori; five grandchildren; Elizabeth, Emily, Joseph, Camila and Ari; eight siblings, Farook, Ghalia, Azhar, Omar, Enoud, Niala, Saber, Nawal, and their spouses; and many siblings-in law, nephews, nieces, grand-nephews, grand-nieces, and friends who were like extended family.
