"I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die." — John 11:25
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, uncle and brother, Anwar Hanoosh who returned to the arms of our Lord on April 20, 2026. Anwar’s life was defined by his unwavering dedication to family, his entrepreneurial spirit, and the joy he found in life’s simple moments.
Anwar was born in the city of Omara, in southern Iraq. After earning his bachelor degree in Trade and Finance in Baghdad and completing his military duties, he took the courageous step of moving to the United States in 1964.
Soon after migrating to the U.S., Anwar met his bride, Najla Naim George. They were married in 1965 and had two sons, Neil and Todd.
Anwar was a constant and loving presence in his grandchildren’s lives creating lasting memories through family dinners, visits to his home in Arizona, outings to the cider mill, and proudly cheering from the sidelines at soccer and volleyball games.
Beyond his immediate family, Anwar remained deeply devoted to his loved ones in Iraq, maintaining strong connections and demonstrating a lifelong commitment to those he cared about most; this was evidenced by the fact that he assisted several family members in moving to the United States.
His sense of responsibility and loyalty extended into his professional life, where he successfully owned and operated Ye Old Wine Shoppe in Rochester for many years. Anwar loved good wine and his customers often went to him for his advice when they wanted a special bottle.
He also found great enjoyment on the golf course, often going on golf trips with his brother in-laws up north as well hitting a golf ball in his backyard for exercise.
He is survived by his loving family, Neil (Nancy) Hanoosh; Todd (Jill) Hanoosh and five grandchildren, Lauren, Zachary, Madden, Rowan and Meadow; and his siblings Sabah, Dhia, Munir, and Souad as well as many nieces and nephews who will continue to honor his life through the stories, values, and love he instilled in them.
Anwar is preceded in death by his wife, Najla; his parents, Zakaria Hanoosh and Najma Abd Alahad; siblings, Yahia, Kawkeb, Mary, Farqad and Thukaa.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Anwar's honor to the Chaldean Seminarian Fund churchbasket.com/give/chaldeandiocese.

Thank you and God Bless!
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy Kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for Thine is the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory, forever and ever.
Amen
