IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gary August
Mccombs
November 11, 1974 – December 21, 2023
We regret to inform you of the loss of the beloved
Gary August McCombs.
Gary grew up in Canton, MI, where he discovered his talent as a musician at an early age, starting his lifelong passion for performing and teaching. Music was a meaningful expression in every aspect of his life from teaching his own son, Riley who gladly followed in his footsteps, to meeting the love of his life & soulmate, Kristin. As a respected director of percussion who worked with many school groups throughout his years, Gary had a passion for mentoring & encouraging young musicians.
Aside from music, Gary loved gardening and traveling. Anyone who visited their home experienced the McCombs Garden Tour. Whether it was seeing the greenhouse he built with Kristin, or walking through vegetable garden where you would walk out with an armful of tomatoes, cucumbers, raspberries, or some crazy peppers to take home and enjoy. Sitting on the back porch you would also hear about the latest adventure they just returned from or the next escapade in the works. Whether it was sitting in the shade on the deck while cruising the Caribbean or exploring northern Michigan with family and friends, making memories always brought him joy.
Gary had a deep devotion for his family & friends. He was the protector of Riley, the calm listening ear and comforting hug for Kristin, and the goofy and loving uncle to his nieces Charlotte and Melanie. He lit up the room everywhere he went, all the while saying how he would love to unplug, be off the grid and live in the middle of nowhere. He was the most personable human you ever met; a generous, selfless and giving soul who would drop anything and everything to help others.
He touched many lives throughout his lifetime, made a lasting impression on everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him and was a blessing to this world.
