IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mario Baluyot
Cardenas
February 27, 1939 – January 28, 2026
Mario Baluyot Cardenas passed peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on January 28, 2026.
Born in Cabuyao, Laguna, Philippines, Mario was the son of Pedro and Leonila Cardenas and one of thirteen children, including his siblings Pablo (Herminia), Illuminada (Romulo), Felicito (Selma), Carlos (Generosa), Teresita (Danilo), Florencio (Adoracion), Marina (Jesus), Joselito (Luisa), Luzviminda (Rudy), Teresita (Jimmy), Zenaida (Eduardo), and Dominga (Ariel). Family played a central role in shaping his values of connection, responsibility, and faith.
Mario graduated from Far Eastern University in the Philippines. In 1972, he immigrated to the United States with determination and hope, building a life rooted in hard work, humility, and dedication. He proudly completed 20+ years of service with APAC Paper Company, where he was respected for his strong work ethic and unwavering commitment.
A faithful member and treasurer of his church, PAECUSA, Mario lived a life of service and integrity. He loved watching the Pistons and the Tigers, never passed up a Jackie Chan movie, and could often be found tending the yard, reading his mail, or contributing to worldwide missions.
Mario leaves behind his beloved wife, Teresita. He was a devoted father to Melvin (Shafa), Michelle, Nicole (Danny), and Matthew (KC); a cherished "Lolo" to his grandchildren Teagan, Zoë, Lucy, and Jackson; and a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Mario will be remembered for his quiet strength, kindness, remarkable ability to talk to literally anyone, and unwavering devotion to his family. His legacy of love, sacrifice, and perseverance will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him and were blessed to share in his life.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at PAECUSA, located at 3140 Goodrich Street, Ferndale, Michigan 48220. A reception luncheon will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Fuji Buffet, located at 32153 John R Road, Madison Heights, Michigan 48071.
Thank you
