Obituary

Mary Louise Plante, 91, of Lathrup Village, MI passed away on April 20, 2021, after suffering a stroke. She is preceded in death by her husband John Marcel Plante and her son-in-law, Tim Doyle. Mary Louise was born October 10, 1929 in Detroit, MI, to Achilles Z. and Blanche (Collins) Shmina. She was one of 6 children and often spoke fondly about growing up with all of her siblings. Preceded her in death were sisters Patricia Shmina, Virginia McIntyre, Delores Arsenault, and brothers Arthur (Mary Ann) and Robert Shmina. As a teenager, Mary Louise loved to sing and was featured on WXYZ radio frequently during the 1940's. She graduated from Mercy College with a BA in English then worked briefly as a social worker. She married John Marcel Plante in 1954 and raised 6 children. In her early 60's she also helped lovingly raise her grandson, Jonathon. Her kindness was unwavering, always putting others before herself. She was extremely generous, sharing with those around her and trying to help those less fortunate. She was also known for her incredible baked goods (especially apple pies) and her infectious sense of humor. She is survived by her children: Art (Judy) Plante, Mark Plante, Laura Doyle, Mary Ellen Plante, Michael Plante and Michelle Hoskins, and her grandchildren: Jonathon Martin, Dr. Brian Plante, Kimberly Meredith and Angelina Doyle. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, George Arsenault, sister-in-law, Elaine Shmina, and close family friend, Carolyn Barth. A memorial mass will be held at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs on Saturday, June 12 at 11am. The church address is: 32340 Pierce St, Beverly Hills, MI.
