IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary
Sitto
May 23, 1926 – June 9, 2025
Dear family and friends, it is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our
dear
Mary Sitto
.
Mary was a truly remarkable, pious and forward thinking woman, a loving wife, mother, grandmother,
great grandmother, and oldest sister to her siblings. She was also a cherished great-aunt and great
grand-aunt. Mary dedicated her life to education, serving as an all girls high school teacher. She
proudly graduated from the distinguished Queen Alia College, 1947-1948, one of the only
colleges for women in Baghdad, where she excelled in Biology, Botany, Zoology and Chemistry.
Her teaching career spanned several cities in Iraq, including Nasrryia, Hilla, Basra, and
Baghdad, and she rose to become assistant and then principal in Basra. Mary's influences were
far-reaching, with many of her students achieving success as physicians, pharmacists, dentists
and many other professions. She was a true icon for the Sitto and Habbo families.
She was the beloved daughter of the late Namo Sitto and Narmi Habbo.
Mary is survived by her siblings: Najah, Amir, Mike, and Mundher. She was preceded in death
by her siblings George, Margo, and Sabah Sitto.
She was the wife of the late Michael Sitto and her legacy lives on through her children: Majd (Nabil), Ola (Lizette), Shahad (Rafi), and Safa (Jolee).
She was a loving grandmother to: Lenore (Mike), Leonard (Elaine),and Marie (Joe); Paul, Neal, Kyle and Lily; Michael
and Matthew; and Luke, Nathaniel, and Peter.
And a doting great-grandmother to: Jonathan, Elliott, and Lucy.
Mary's spirit was vibrant and her mind incredibly sharp; her memories were truly exceptional.
She could effortlessly connect with anyone she met, engaging in meaningful conversations with
people of all ages and backgrounds on countless subjects. Her love for her children,
grandchildren, parents, brothers, sister, and all immediate family members was boundless. Mary
radiated God's love to everyone, making an instant, deep connection with even strangers. She
taught us all the importance of love and care for others, always finding happiness and trusting in
God's plan.
We will miss her beyond measure. In keeping with her wishes and deep family devotion, Mary
will be laid to rest beside her mother in Arizona, near other cherished family members. May she
rest peacefully in Heaven with the Lord and all the angels.
The family of Mary Sitto respectfully requests no guests at their home during their time of
sorrow. Thank you for your kind understanding.
