The Very Reverend Father Michael Orr
Born February 18, 1959, he departed this world November 17, 2017.
Father Michael as he was affectionately called was born in Hempstead New York to William Owen Orr (who preceded him in death) and Mary Barbour. He graduated from Redford High school in 1977 and soon after began working for the telephone company until he retired after 30 years of faithful service. Father Michael came to know the Lord at a very early age due to the persistent and loving prayers of his mother. He was ordained into the ministry at the age of 12 by the late Reverend James C. Taylor, Pastor of Grace Temple Church of God in Christ in Detroit. While at Grace Temple, Father Michael Served faithfully in the music ministry and was well known within the gospel music circle for his extensive musical talents. He was also ordained an Elder and after serving faithfully in ministry for 32 years, God Almighty called him to serve him yet again as an Anglo – Catholic Priest. Father Michael was ordained a Priest on January 15, 2006. Following his ordination, he became the pastor of The Church of the Most Holy Trinity a local mission in Southfield. In 2013, he was appointed The Very Reverend Dean of the Great Lakes.
A large part of Father Michael's legacy is also connected to the Domestic Violence Agency he began in 1995 along with his wife Tanya and his god sister the late Ms. Shirley Mae Williams. Dominion Family Services was and still is committed to helping men and their families work through the horror and tremendous anguish of family violence. Along with serving as a husband, father, grandfather, priest, mentor and friend to so many, Father Michael also served as one of the many fine Chaplains of the Southfield Police Department for several years.
This wonderfully kind, generous, and loving man leaves to cherish his memory his very loving wife Mrs. Tanya Orr and his mother Mary Barbour. He also leaves behind the heavy hearts of his three children, Jason Orr JaTaune Orr and Dorian Fountain also his four grandchildren, Amon, Jordan, Andrew and his only granddaughter Ava. He also leaves behind four siblings whom he loved and who will miss him forever; Clarence Barbour (Grace) of Southfield, Mary A. Lewis-Willis of Farmington Hills, Sharon Rich of Atlanta, Shirley Stevens of New York, Kenneth Stevens of New York. He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
To Michael:
The sun in my heart has set
And all seems dark right now
Everyone says time heals all wounds
But my love I can't see how.
I reach for you but you're not there
And I grieve just to touch your skin
I pray my love that they are right
And someday my heart can live again.
I will love you forever, Tanya.
