With heavy hearts we announce the passing
of our Beloved Samir Yousif Bahri.
S
amir Yousif Bahri passed away Saturday December 4, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 27, 1945 in Mosul Iraq, son of the late Yousif and Salma Bahri. He left home at age 10 to enter the seminar in Mosul from 1955 - 1961. He then earned a scholarship in 1961 to study abroad and attended the Pontifical Urban University in Italy, graduating with a Masters degree in Philosophy in 1965 and a Bachelors in Theology in 1967. He also studied at the University of Salamanca in Spain and earned a Diploma for Spanish Language and Culture in 1967 and was a teacher in Spain for two years. He was multilingual and spoke seven languages, French, Italian, Spanish, Arabic, Chaldean Latin and English. He moved to the U.S. in 1969 and settled in Detroit, MI. He met and married his love Khalida Bahri (Shaouni) in Detroit, MI on August 16, 1970, they had two children together and celebrated their golden 50 year anniversary in 2020. Samir always put God first and worked hard caring for his family. He worked for 33 years at Chrysler Corporation and retired in 2005. After retirement he worked as an army contractor for five years helping the U.S. Army as an interpreter/translator for Operation Iraqi Freedom. His favorite hobby that he spent his free time on was his landscaping and gardening. He had a sharp wit and loved to make black tea and Turkish coffee for his family. He was always an explorer and loved traveling. He most enjoyed discovering small towns, beaches, restaurants and hole in the wall places. His favorite was taking long drives to explore areas in northern MI. He liked camping yearly in Carey, Ohio. Most of all he loved spending time with his family. Samir is survived by his loving wife Khalida Bahri, his son Bernard Bahri, daughter Loreen Bahri, and his Brothers Sabah Bahri, Latif Bahri, Imad Bahri, Masood Bahri, Adnan Bahri, his sisters Sahira Somo, Samira Dalou, and Sana Yono.

St. George Chaldean Catholic Church
