IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Zean Zaia
Younan
December 15, 1953 – October 21, 2024
It is with great sadness that the family of
Zean Zaia Younan
announce her passing on October 21st, 2024. Zean was a loving mother, sister, wife, aunt and friend, and all of us who knew her are forever altered by her loss.
Born on December 15th, 1953 in Baghdad, Iraq, Zean's passion came through in everything she did and said. Fiercely loyal to those she loved, resolute in her beliefs, and adventurous in spirit, Zean's love for others was uninhibited. It was with this love that she left her mark on all of us.
Like many of us, Zean's life was not always easy. It was full of change, challenges and setbacks. She grew up in Iraq, moved to Detroit, lived in California for 30 years, and moved to Virginia. In that time she married her husband and raised two beautiful children. She also built an unexpected but exciting career as a federal agent. But ultimately, she was bound to her sisters, and that bond drew her back to Michigan in the final years of her life.
But the story of Zean's life is not that she experienced change and challenges. That she encountered difficult situations or difficult people. The story of Zean's life is that she spread love and light in spite of those things. That she loved to laugh and loved when others laughed with her. That she had a contagious smile. That her heart was full of so much love and kindness that it spilled over and into the cups of everyone around her. That is her legacy.
No one can ever comprehend how such a life can be cut short so unexpectedly. The only thing we can know is that we were extraordinarily lucky to have such a bright soul to light up our lives. Zean took nothing and she gave generously – the world is a little better because she was here.
Zean is survived by her children, Patrick and Sabrina; sons-in-law, Abe and Braden; her husband, Basim; her sisters Margo, Virjean, and Yasmin; countless nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews that loved her like a Nana.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Zean can be made to

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name;

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as

temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen
